Charles Smith, CEcD

 Charles Smith, CEcD came to the City of Mount Pleasant in 2003.  He was initially employed by the Mount Pleasant Industrial Foundation and the Industrial Development  Corporation.   The two entities have transformed into what is today the Mount Pleasant Economic Development Corporation (MPEDC).

 Prior to coming to Mount Pleasant, Charles had served as Executive Director of the Belton (TX) Economic Development Corporation for nine years,  Executive Director of the  McNairy County (TN) Economic Development Commission for four years and the Executive Director of the Castle Rock (CO) Chamber of Commerce for three years.

 Charles received a BBA from Baylor University with a Double Major in Management and Marketing.  After college he entered private business,  managing and owning furniture and  interior design businesses in Roswell and Ruidoso, NM.  During this time he volunteered and served on the Board of Chambers of Commerce and became interested in the field of  economic development.  Since changing careers he has continued his education completing Institute for Organization Management and Economic Development Institute through the  Oklahoma State University.  He earned the Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) accreditation from the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) in 2004.
